Introduction

Worship of the moon and more specifically deities who were associated with the moon was common practice when early civilizations came to rise. Especially places that we now know as Africa or the Middle East where true civilization began. It can be argued that many of the Gods, or God people believe in today were originally the Gods and Goddesses of the moon.

Many modern religions, if not all Abrahamic Religions had their prophets grow up during a time where spirituality was the most prevalent. Monotheism: the belief and practice of just one “true” God was advertised and practiced because of its simplicity.

There was no individual journey; it was all about congregation and walking in a path that has already been chosen for you. While practical and comforting there is no one way to live life or a type of life that everyone needs to aim to live. The only thing we should all aim for is peace within ourselves, peace within our global community, and peace of mind.

As a ritualist whose roots come from practicing with lunar energy I find it fundamental to align my work with the cycles of the moon. This is not necessary at all and I am writing this with the hopes that you can take some of this information and find it helpful to incorporate into your own craft.

By nature the moon is feminine energy. It is transformative, nurturing, protective, purifying, and will increase the potency of your own power. When I align my practice with the moon I am aligning it with the endless cycle of death and rebirth, while also deepening my connection with my inner self.

I am a combustion of energy and I choose to bring what naturally flows into my practice. Most of us already know of the Full moon's power to fuel energy into your craft.

But what about the other phases of the moon? How can the moon’s energy influence my Practice? ?It is important to note that the moon is constantly orbiting; it never stops, meaning phases are transitional depending on the time of day and where in the world you are, but this is what makes its transformative energy so powerful.

NEW MOON

• Physical properties: The Sun and Moon are aligned & the Earth and Sun are on opposite sides of the moon. This alignment means that the side of the Moon that is facing the earth is invisible to the naked eye.

• Magickal significance: Because of the darkness of the sky on a night of the full moon it's a great time for you to set your intentions and goals for the upcoming cycle. It's also great for letting go of things and people who will not support you on your journey.

• Practice: With the moon being basically out of sight it's a great time to acknowledge your dark side and do your Shadow work.

WAXING CRESCENT

• Physical properties : Transitional phase where the moon is getting bigger and brighter, where the sun is moving closer to the moon and a waxing crescent of light can be seen.

• Magickal significance: Nourish yourself and fuel your practice. This is a great time to show gratitude with action and offerings. Fueling your practice can also look like pampering and nourishing yourself spiritually like aura cleanses and chakra balancing in preparation for the full moon.

• Practice: This can look like sympathetic magic which is the idea that your essence can be tampered with if it is in magickal correspondence to something that is being tampered with. This works with all sentient life. Example my soul is tethered to Earth by vessel so its important for me to care for my body daily but especially during this time.

1ST QUARTER

• Physical properties: The moon will look half full balanced equally in both lightness and darkness.

• Magickal significance: This is the point where you would follow through with worldly actions towards your goal and intentions despite any challenges that are thrown at you.

• Practice: You must find perfect work and play balance. Work enough where your ambitions become reality, but play and rest enough so that you are not feeling physically or emotionally drained. Only you know the right balance for your life.

FULL MOON

• Physical properties :The Moon is the biggest and brightest at this point, the Sun and Moon are on opposite sides of the Earth and the Moon’s surface is fully illuminated

• Magickal significance: Full moon energy will clarify and intensify anything that you allow it to charge. May it be yourself, a manifestation, your practice, ect.

• Practice : Practice anything you want to feed your energy into. The full moon will increase your passion, your magickal potency, the moon does this on its own, so do be intentional about your practice, actions, and words.

3RD QUARTER

• Physical properties: This is the last stage of the moon before it goes into a completely new lunar cycle.

• Magickal significance: Ride out the last waves of light and passion of this lunar cycle and prepare to begin anew.

• Practice: Be clear to what you have gained and lost during this Moon cycle, summarize what you have learned and make sure you are applying it into your practice into the New Moon cycle. What you have learned are tools to improve your craft, don't let good messages go to waste.

WANING CRESCENT

• Physical properties : The moon is in its transitional phase becoming smaller waning into a 3rd quarter Moon.

• Magickal significance: Generosity of knowledge of wealth is the perfect way to pay respects for the impact of the Moon's energy. You will find everything that you give out will be returned back to you tenfold.

• Practice: Banishing work is perfect during this phase of the Moon you will find your fears melting away easily. Out of sight out of mind,as you begin to see the fruits of your labor.
