I started my spiritual journey a lot like how most people do with meditation. Since my beginning meditation has been a part of my daily lifestyle and supports me in having clarity and stillness of mind.
There are an endless amount of benefits that come with meditation, I could write an entire book about it. It can help you clear chatter from your mind, identify the various parts of self, conscious attunement, grounding, healing, and creating stillness.
But not all meditation techniques are created equal and I would just love to share with you my top 5 meditation techniques that have never failed me.
Say my intention for meditation is to see my goals more clearly and focus on a plan of action, with each technique I can reach this goal but each will be a different journey. You can even do an entire ritual off of meditation alone, it is the basis of true attunement to your intentions.
Stone meditation

The stone can assist you by giving you a direct channel to existing energy that you wish to hold for yourself. Much like the mere existence of the stone can give you a boost of energy, you are layering your intent with multiple different tools to really make your meditation impactful.
Questions to ask yourself
What stone is going to best support me in my meditation goals? Does this stone correspond with any chakras or energy points that I should be mindful of?
Example: If my intent for meditation is to increase my divine feminine power I can meditate with a moon stone over my third eye or crown chakra to attune myself to the divine feminine.
In this example the moonstone acts like a channel of energy I am connecting myself with so that I can pull my divine feminine power from the source.
Thus making sure energy is coming to me from an already existing source that surrounds me. My ritual is always inspired by the elements of the universe that make me and everything around me.
Deity guided meditation ( Prayer)

This type of meditation very much resembles prayer, and requires a pre-established relationship among the spiritual realm.
Whatever way you would like to honor the deity or guide you are working with to ask for divine messages is perfect.
The goal is to reach out to the spiritual realm and receive guidance from beyond this existence.
One reason I would choose this technique is because I have been receiving omens or synochrity in my life, a major sign that my guides are trying to reach me. Or I could be looking for specific, more helpful guidance that I know one of my guides will undoubtedly have an answer for.
There are ways you can imagine being in the presence of an entity of your choosing. What manifestation ( physical form) does that entity take? What are the colors, clothing, accessories, and sounds they carry? Pay attention to all of your senses.
Even if you are not clairvoyant there will still be clear signs that your guide is here with you.
What messages do they have for you? What aspect of you are you allowing them to cleanse and guide? Accept their blessings and messages in a silent meditation.
Free thought

Freethought is a reflective meditation technique that is perfect for shadow work.
I'm sure you are aware of mainstream meditation where you must clear and silence the chatter of the mind. This is much easier said than done.
Instead of silencing yourself and your emotions feel them thoroughly. Let the thoughts resonate in your mind. Why are these thoughts holding power over you?
With this method you will be working your way through the fog to get to stillness instead of assuming stillness immediately.
Sometimes what you need to do for proper meditation is to release yourself from the burden of holding onto lingering energy. Meditation doesn't always look like a crossed leg yogi; finding stillness of the mind will require healing.
You cannot heal from something you've never allowed yourself the pleasure of feeling. In passing lets say your thoughts keep drifting to an argument you had with your significant other this morning.
Odds are you sitting here reworking the argument in your head over and over again isn't going to help anyone. Acknowledge this thought. Say yes I see you and I hear you.
Think about the challenges of your situation without placing blame. It is not you who is the problem and it is not your significant other. But still a challenge presents itself to you.
Think about all the perspectives of the situation that are not your own. What is your partner's perspective, what is an unbiased perspective of the situation?
When in free thought no imagery or emotion you feel is wrong. But these emotions need to be felt in order to be properly processed.
This may be difficult to do sitting there by yourself especially if you are an action-based person. But it is time you need to spend on yourself. Look at your actions, and responses.
How can your emotions be better articulated so that a solution can be found without anyone feeling like they just took a fat L?
You cannot heal from something you have never allowed yourself to feel. Even if you feel ridiculous or dumb for having this emotion it's still valid.
No matter how far you have believed yourself to travel in your healing journey, there is never a good reason to invalidate yourself.
Write it down if you need an even bigger or more physical release. And do this process of stepping outside of yourself for every thought that crosses your mind.
And after you have seen the bigger picture, clarity comes to your mind to help you identify the roots of your actual issues that stem from within. This will help you sort through the chaos of your mind; to really figure out what's been up with you, and what things are too insignificant to matter.
Imagery
If you are a visual or imaginative person this will be the most effective meditation technique for you. A meditation based on imagery allows you to travel to distant places so you can reach your meditative goals.
You imagine yourself to be in a completely different atmosphere than you currently find yourself in. Like under a waterfall or in the rain for a spiritual cleansing. Or in a distant land where your creativity can roam free.
Your options are endless and there is a plethora of audios out there on the internet that can guide you to your own wonderland.
My favorite visual guide topics are
To be guided to my higher self ( especially helpful for when i wanted to identify myself with divinity)
To imagine a magical forest safe place ( some place that i can always easily travel to that will bring me peace because its a place of my own sacred creation)
Past life regression ( to understand the totality of my karma so i may overcome the challenges in my life with clear insight)
Ego death ( so my ego may never overcome me)
Breath focused ( very classic guided meditation that’s perfect for beginners and advanced practitioners)
Color therapy

Colored based meditation focuses on using the natural healing powers of light to guide you. After all color is just a reflection of light.
You can imagine yourself being bathed by a stream of colored light, or even use a color changing led light to physically immerse yourself in color.
The colors that make up our world, our auras, and our cultures have so much significance and power ; I'm sure even you have a favorite color.
Maybe you love red because it's your mothers favorite color, her home is dressed in red and it gives you comfort.
You can imagine a beautiful red sun shining down on you bathing you in red iridescent light bringing you homey comfort even if you're 1,000 miles away.
That is self significance and to me even more powerful than the significance someone else tells you.
However, the general consensus of color meaning is still a very transformative tool that has healed me and I will continue to utilize it for its healing properties.
From this I know that red signifies power and is incredible when I want to bathe myself in the light of divine feminine power. A perfect prequitse to ritual because it will attune your mind, body and goal to a specific purpose. Bonus points when your candle and altar cloth match this color and intention.
