Spiritual Realm Relationships 101

The difference between cultural appreciation vs cultural appropriation.

What are the differences between a spirit, ghost, deity, daemon, angel and how can their energy impact my magic? When you start practicing spirituality you must understand first that with enough faith literally everything is possible. You must also grasp that your faith does not trump anyone else’s just because you have faith in it. Spirituality is respect of one's practice and lifestyle as well as the practice and lifestyle of others.

What about murders, the lady who cut me off while driving, the man who keeps flirting with my girlfriend?

We are all experiencing our own journeys. People’s actions, even towards you, are 100% on their own accord, you can't make someone do something to you just by existing as yourself.

This is the same for you, people don't bring out the worst in you, people may bring out negative reactions from you because you have unhealed parts of yourself that are screaming for recognition.

an Introduction to the Divine Trinity “( The shadow self, worldly self, and higher self alignment)

Truly, the main differences between a spirit, ghost, deity, god, goddess, and everything in between are the spiritual hierarchies & the relationship these entities have with both our reality and the spiritual realm.

If you want to connect and work with any entity, ask yourself these questions. (Bouns Tip: Take Notes! Its a great a way to connect yourself when learning & make it easy to reference)

  • What attracts you to this entity?

  • What is this spirit's main purpose & core values?

  • Why do you want to work with this entity?

  • What needs to be done to initiate a relationship with this entity? Offerings, rituals, ceremonies, etc.

  • What does your ideal relationship with this entity look like?

  • What needs to be done to maintain this relationship?

  • What does this entity gain from a relationship with me?

Every spirit, deity, god, goddess, angel, daemon, etc is different. They each have their own story, own origin, own experiences, and perspectives.

Where you often run into closed practices is attempting to reach out to spirits whose purpose was not to support you , but the ancestors and people of a group who you cannot identify with.

You will never have to wonder if you are appropriating culture if you truly learn where these entities come from and what their missions are.

An example of this is that Vodu is a religious exclusive practice to groups impacted by the atlantic slave trade, its origins coming form religions in west & central Africa.

Working with certain loa would be closed off to those who were not directly affected by the atlantic slave trade because this religious branch Haitian & Louisiana Vodu stems from restoring the imbalance of this historical tragedy; for evening the playing field, and being able to protect our mind, body, and soul from the horrors that slavery brought into the new world.

Respect the tradition of closed practices, nothing is of limits to learn just make sure you know what your doing & make good choices.

I encourage you to learn more about Vodu and maybe some of the messages Vodu has will resonate with you.

A message from Vodu that has resonated with me is to not abuse the power of magick , and to respect all things that have contributed to making me the way I am.

It would be a cultural appreciation: to understand where Vodou practitioners are coming from and respect that these practices are off limits to you. If invited you can definitely participate in events as a guest or even a customer, but to facilitate these practices for yourself would be wrong.

With education you will learn what you should incorporate into your practice and what you should admire from afar.

This is less than summaries of how complex each of these entities are. I don't want to tell you what spirits you should work with, because every person has to decide for themselves which entities will support them and guide them on their journey.

I only want to explain to you that building a relationship with these entities is less complicated than you may think.

Where to start my research

  • Know their core origin stories. What made them become the entity they are today?

  • Where do their followers and practitioners come from?

  • What type of relationship do others have with this entity, and what can you expect?

  • How can you reach out to this entity and let them know you would like to be friends?

  • How can I earn their respect and trust?

Once you start communicating with your entity, make sure you talk to them about how to maintain the relationship. A relationship where the entity is always giving and you are not also giving is not a sustainable way to work.

It's not only disrespectful to the spirits but also to yourself, you are basically saying that you have nothing to offer. Don't be surprised if entities take back the gifts they have given you or decide not to reach out to you anymore.

They are divine spiritual beings, nothing less. Never disrespect any spiritual entity for two reasons. One for respect of your own energy and space; two because you have no idea of the power and impact other spiritual beings can have.

You should respect all entities regardless of your individual beliefs. Now this does not mean you have to worship them but to degrade them would be a mistake.

Roots of spirituality come from the respect of self, others, and the infinite universe no matter what reality may say.

If you can have respect for all things living & past you can become one with the universe.

Unshakable faith is enough to make all things real.
